Are you looking for that one drink for your parties that will simply “WOW” your guests? Well look no further! It’s one of my all-time signature drinks….my Madeline’s Mouthwatering Frozen Mango Margarita. I couldn’t live with myself if I had to wait any longer for the summer season to arrive before I could showcase this mind-blowing drink! But we’re into Spring, and there will be some warm days coming to enjoy this delectable drink, and for many all over the globe it is summer all the time!
For those who are interested in how this drink came about, I have to give credit where credit’s due.
This Mouthwatering Frozen Mango Margarita drink was relatively born on a girl’s weekend trip to Marco Island, Florida, thanks to my dear friend, Lori, and her family’s generosity. My boys were very young at the time, and my husband, John, held their little hands at the airport while they hugged me good-bye in the line to board the plane…yes, it was that long ago when you could still see your loved ones off at the gate! I gave hugs and kisses to all, my heart ached to leave them. Well, I exaggerate a little because I was heading off to four days of rest, relaxation and PEACE and QUIET! And maybe a few adult beverages sprinkled in! Yahoo!
After arriving in the late night to the mosquito-infested island in 100+ degree weather, we knew we had to partake in a cool, refreshing adult beverage! There on the kitchen counter was the mixings for a Lime Margarita (limeade, ice, tequila and triple sec) and the most important invention since the car….a blender! One cannot survive without this magnificent appliance! I think I’m the only wife who WANTS a blender for a birthday present from her husband! I celebrate our milestone anniversaries not by jewelry stones (unless they are made into counter tops), but by appliances and kitchen gadgets!
I digressed……so back to the drink story……
The blender was music to my ears! After a long flight, sweat dripping down my neck, guilt piled high from leaving my husband and kids and my mother confused as to why I would go away and leave such a wonderful man and those darling little cherubs (double ouch), I had to think twice about whether I should be there…NOT! So, I watched as the frozen drink was blended to silky perfection. The blender pitcher was removed from the base, the glasses were doused with lime juice and rimmed in chunky margarita salt, and the frozen drink was carefully poured into our glasses. Oh, it was a beautiful sight and sound! We couldn’t wait to take that first sip! And what a sip it was! My introduction to the frozen Lime Margarita was born! It became love at first sight! We went on to have a wonderful few days enjoying Margaritas, the sun and the coastal amenities in Florida before returning refreshed and ready for hugs and kisses that awaited us when we returned home.
A few years later six of us went away (my husband and I, two girlfriends and their husbands) to St. Thomas for another adult getaway. (Sensing a theme here???) There on the beach among the gently swaying palm trees, balmy Caribbean climate, and unusually cute iguanas surrounding our chairs, was a beach bar with the beautiful noise of “the blender”. Of course, I was drawn to it, and when I reached the bar, there was another beautiful sight……a gorgeous yellow/orange frozen drink rimmed in thick salt and garnished with a lime wedge, mango slice and cherry. I had to inquire…….what was that drink? The bartender stated very matter of fact , “it is a Mango Margarita of course!” Just as I was ready to pay her and grab that drink for myself, a woman swept in and stole my ticket to pure mouthwatering joy! Luckily, the bartender was already whipping one up for me and my faith was restored in humankind. Everyone had to have one (or two) everyday while we were on the beach, and I swore I would bring that drink recipe home so we could all enjoy it at our parties and get-togethers. And we have ever since!
So without further adoo…..I don’t ever want to come between my peeps and my Mouthwatering Mango Margarita!
Madeline's Mouthwatering Frozen Mango Margarita
- 12 ounces Frozen Limeade Orchard Limeade has 1/3 less sugar
- 10 ounces Tequila I prefer Jose Quervo Gold
- 2 ounces Triple Sec I prefer Grand Marnier
- 1 1/4 cup Fresh or Frozen Mango If you use frozen mango, I like to thaw it before blending
- 4 cups Ice
- 1 slice Lime For rimming the glass and garnish
- 2 tsp Margarita Salt Optional (used to rim the glass)
- 1 tbsp Jalapeno, minced Optional but adds a great kick!
- Fill a blender about 2/3rd full of ice. Put mango, limeade, Tequila and Triple Sec into the blender of ice. Place the lid on the blender. Blend at the highest speed made for a frozen drink for about 2 minutes until everything is blended smooth (no ice or mango chips visible). While the blender is going, rim your margarita glass with a piece of lime. Dip in margarita salt so that the entire glass is rimmed with salt. If you don’t like salt, substitute sugar! Pour your frozen mango margarita into your glass. Top with a wedge of lime for garnish! Nothing left to do but enjoy!
